What is Full-Colour Recovery?
One of the most common worries is that being sober will be boring. It doesn’t have to be! Once you get solid in your sobriety, so much more will be available to you than you ever imagined. Get ready for full-colour recovery
Where do you start?
- changing the dead light bulbs, mending the torn shirt, and cleaning out old junk from your cupboards.
- opening up the pile of mail and catching up on your financials.
- hanging up art and re-arranging the furniture.
- finding out which of your friends you want to keep in your life and which to let go.
- excavating your mind to find all the ways the trauma has shaped you and how to heal from that.
- going back to those same topics again even once you thought they were fixed.
All of that might sound a bit boring or stressful. What’s the point of all that?
This work is essential because it clears the way for the FUN, the juicy, creative, abundant parts of recovery.
The fun doesn’t usually come right away because often after a period of over-drinking (mine was 30 years) we have built up a lot of other things that need to be taken care of first. So get that junk out of your path and make way for fabulous.
Full-colour could mean going out to karaoke with your friends and belting out a song. Or maybe it means saying no to karaoke without hesitation or justifications, just because you don’t like it.
It means getting up behind the microphone to sing, to speak, to perform, and finding out that “dutch courage” from a bottle is not required and even counter-productive.
It means putting on a great outfit and hitting the dance floor. And it means staying home in your comfy pants when that’s what you need right now.
It means making eyes at someone, flirting with them, showing them your true self, and seeing deeply into them as well.
It means diving deeply into your craft and discovering creativity you didn’t know you had.
It means finding out that you’re social, you’re funny, and people like you.
